If you just had gynecomastia surgery done, then you may be wondering when you can show off your results at the pool. Before you put on your board shorts and o a cannonball into the pool, you’ve got to get through recovery first. From avoiding strenuous activities to changing your dressings, let’s go over a few ways to speed up your recovery.

Avoid Strenuous Activities

Whether your poison is mountain biking, weight lifting, or anything else that requires you to put your big guns to good use, don’t do them for at least a couple of weeks. Exercising after gynecomastia surgery may cause your incisions to open up, may increase swelling, and may leave you feeling sorer than before. Use this as an excuse to lay in bed and catch up on Netflix.

Take NSAIDs

It’s normal to both be in pain after gynecomastia surgery and to have some swelling. Luckily, when you take an over-the-counter nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug like ibuprofen, you can help to get rid of these symptoms without worrying about any addictive attributes.

Change Your Bandages

The last thing that you want to do is neglect your bandages and dressings after you have surgery; this will lead to infections, scabbing, or severe scarring. When we send you home from surgery, we will give you detailed instructions on how to clean around the incision site, how to wash it, and how to change your dressings. Because you probably don’t’ shower for at least a day after surgery, make sure that you keep clean bandages on; especially if you are bleeding a lot. If you notice the bleeding worsening, contact our office right away.

The sooner you recover, the sooner you can show off your news, chiseled chest. To learn more about recovery, contact us at our Falls Church office today at  (703) 544-8971.
